H4 Visa
H4 visa is given by United States to their migrants. H4 visa is given by USSCIS (U.S Citizenship and immigration services). Unmarried children and spouse under 21 years old and who have H1B, H3, H2B, H2A or H1C visa can apply for H4 visas. It is illegal to work if you have H4 status. A person who has an H4 status cannot work until his or her status is changed to H1B from the INS. H4 visa prohibit a person from working in any company of that country. At present INS is not giving Social Security Numbers to those who hold H4 visas. H4 visa holders can open bank account.
H4 visa holders can buy the car of their choice because they are permitted to have Driver's license. You can even take admission to college. Children who haveH4 visas do not require separate visa t go to school. They can attend school without changing their status. An alternative to H4 visa holders is to change their visa status to H1B or F1. By getting H4 visa you can lawfully stay in US. But if you are not in US and you don't have H4 visa then you can get it by filing a filing a form to change your status.
You can change your status from H4 to F1 if you do full time work. You can certainly change status from H4 to H1 if you provide proof that you are qualified and that you had prior experience in your field. Changing to H1B status is a bit tough because of limited quota. If people who have H4 status are interested to work then they have to obtain USCIS permission. USCIS gives permission to H4 dependent spouses if they have successfully applies for a green card. As H4 visa holders cannot work they have to be financially dependent on someone else.
H4 visa holders are always dependent for maintenance and renewal of their status.
Family members of H4 visa holders are admitted in nonimmigrant categories. Once your family is given nonimmigrant categories they become eligible to qualify for F1 visas. Children who have F1 status can attend schools and even apply for higher studies. Before giving H4 visas the US government checks the validity of H1B visa. If it is invalid or has expired then H4 visa is not granted to that person. Getting H4 visa is not difficult if you have a valid H1B visa.
